  2. I would have to say I wasn't a hundred percent sure i wanted to be a teacher when i first came to Lindenwood. I questioned being an education major many times. over break i was just thinking about my future and I thought back to what enjoyed most in school. My middle school PE teacher had always been a inspiration thought out my life. He is a good family friend and he has helped me to realize i would be great teacher in life.

  3. All my life I have said I wanted to be a teacher. The only part I needed to figure out was what I wanted to teach. My senior year of high school helped me figure out that I wanted to teach and what I wanted to teach. I did cadet teaching all year and I fell in love with the little fourth graders! Thats when I knew for sure that this is what I wanted to do for the rest of my life!

  4. Andrew, I think it is awesome how much your middle school PE teacher influenced you so much! It makes me think back to all the teachers that really influeneced me as well!

  5. I have not always wanted to be a teacher. When I first graduated from high school 6 years ago I wanted to be a nurse! I wanted to help people and make a difference in the community. Too bad I pass out when I see blood! :)

I finally received my Associates Degree from STLCC in December 2008 and decided this past summer that I wanted to keep going forth with my College Education. I think becoming a teacher would allow me to still make a huge difference in the community and I would still be able to help people out. After observing some of my friend's classrooms I decided this was something I could be really great at!

  6. Helping others is what I have always wanted to do. I see teaching as a great way to do so. Many teachers in my day impacted my life in a very positive way. I would like to impact the students I have the oppurtunity to teach in the same positive way I was impacted

  7. Monica, I see teaching helping out other just as much as nursing. Teaching will for sure make a positive difference in the community, not to add an intelligent community makes for a good community.

  8. I didn't want to be a teacher till about my sophomore year in high school. I wanted to be a lawyer but after having bad teachers, and my love for being around little kids I decided that teaching was the way to go for me. I have helped out at a daycare for five years and love it. Judy the daycare provider is the one who really got me into wanting to be a teacher, she showed me that day in and day out it will be hard but you get so much out of working with kids. I want to be either an elementary teacher or an art teacher. Everyone says I am going to be the perfect teacher because of my energy. I just figured if you’re going to do something why not choose a career where you love what you do.

Monica, I feel you on the blood thing and I like how you think. Being a teacher will help out our community just as much as being a nurse will. I also think thats awesome that you have stayed in school for so long.

  9. I think that I came to be here because I have always enjoyed showing people how to do things that they do not understand. My freshman english teacher played a huge role in why I chose to be in education. He really made sure that it was understood, what we were talking about. He was very by the book but I still had lots of fun in his class. I think that seeing someone be so successful as a teacher and still have fun helped me a lot.

  10. Will, I feel the same way about helping others. Teaching, I think, is the best way to do that and really make an impact on someone's life like teachers I've had have done for me.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Todd... I think your English teacher is exactly how I want to run my classroom. I want to be 'by the book' but I also want to make 'by the book' fun! I want kids to respect me but also think that my class is really exciting and different.

  12. Monica, I think many people were in the same boat as you. I know i was when i was trying to figure out what i wanted to be. I think thats awsome that you picked teaching over nursing but either way you would of gone would of helped people.

  13. When I was in high school, I had no clue what I wanted to do. Then senior year, it just came to me to be a teacher, and it could not be a more perfect fit. I love being around kids and have always enjoyed helping people. I wasn't sure what I wanted to teach until I went to A+ senior year and worked with a first grade class. They were the most amazing kids and had the brightest ideas and thoughts, and I knew that was what I wanted to do.

  14. Kim, I have also been told I would make a great teacher because of the energy and patients I have. It is great to see someone else that wants to work with younger kids because it can be very challenging, but it is so fun and rewarding in the end!

  15. I have not always planned my future on being a teacher. I did always Wanted to be a high school basketball coach though. In order to do that though I would have to be a teacher. Around my Junior year of high school I sat down with my basketball coach and talked about my future and told him what I wanted to do. I feel like I am here now wanting to be a teacher because my Basketball coach did inspire me. I saw how much he loved to teach as much as he loved to coach and it made me want to be like him. Making a difference is what I want to do and being a teacher will help me get to doing that.

  16. Will,
I agree with you helping others is something I would love to do too. I have been impacted by many teachers as well and hope to make the same impact on someone as they made on me as well.

  17. Being interested in music, it's hard to find a job out there performing as I have always wanted to do. I finally realized that if I need some sort of backup plan. Teaching. I have always been a strong supporter of fine arts in school and recently I've found that it wouldn't be so bad being a teacher.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Andrew,
My middle school band director influence me just as much too. He really got me into music, the start of my music career was because of him and I've wanted to be a musician ever since.

  19. First of all I have always known that I want to work with helping people. And one of the most influential teacher I ever had, said to me in high school, that he thought that I would consider becoming a teacher, because of my positive energy. Secondly, I have had my share of awful teachers through my years in school and I think that I can use my negative experiences as references how my teaching should look like, or more correctly; NOT look like...

  20. Ryan H, I can really relate to your comment. A couple of years ago, I had a great swim coach, and I could see how much he loved his job, and that really inspired me. He also cared about his swimmers very much, but at the same time, he pushed us to our limits to become better athletes. As a teacher (or coach) I want to make a difference too! :)

  21. I took this class because I am wanting to know what it is like in the classroom and on the football feild in the city.I personally came from a small school, and I have had lots of experiece teaching students in the "old school" style of learnng. I want to get a feeling of what it is like to teach inner city students as well as learning a style of football training that i could bring back to the less fortunate smaller schools in the rural area.

  22. jamie,
That is great that you found out what you wanted to do in high school and didnt go into college not knowing what you wanted to do. I personally want to teach High school students, but you seem like you really love the younger kids and i think that is the most important part of teaching is loving the environment that you are in. great comment. lol.

  23. I have always known that I wanted to be a teacher. Ever since I was little I would come home from school and and go downstairs to my playroom, which had a big chalkboard on the wall and two desks in the room. I also have always known I wanted to teach younger students, because I have two younger brothers and I always enjoyed helping them with their home work and teaching them new things.

  24. Therese K: I agree, I have also had my share of bad teachers in elementary school and highschool, atleast they taught us one thing which is what not to do. Also, it's good that you listened to your teacher that told you to become a teacher, one of my teachers also told me that!

    ReplyDelete
  25. When I was little I did not want to be a teacher because my mom was a teacher and I did not want to be in the same job field as her. Now that I have seen how much of a positive impact she had on the children in her classroom, I want to do the same thing.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Therese K: I also agree, everyone has those teachers that do not belong in the classroom and turned that class into a bad experience. We need more teachers who have a passion for teaching.

  27. I used to think that being a teacher was something I would really want to do, but once I got to high school I wanted to pursue other goals that I thought would "make more money". So, I went to UMKC for Pharmacy and quickly realized that it was not for me. I then changed to Pre-Optometry, but was still not completely sure that it was right. I decided to change my mind, again, to something that I now think I will truely enjoy, not just for the title or paycheck. But, I will have the chance to inspire kids every day and enjoy doing so.

  28. Therese K.: I really agree with your comment, sometimes it seems like through my years in school with a few great teachers and what seems like many bad teachers, I have learned what to do and what not to do when it comes to teaching.

  30. As a history major i always hear who boring the subject can be, and i've had my share of bad history teachers. However i have also had awesome ones and i want peopel to enjoy history and see it as more than a boring subject you have to take in order to graduate. If I become a teacher I will beable to show people the subject i know and love.

  31. I did not always want to be a teacher. Actually, when that was suggested by my parents as something I would be good at, I thought no way. I wanted to be a high school or college softball coach, but not have to teach. Now I want to coach and teach because I have come to realize that I can explain things well and make it fun on the field and in the classroom. One person that greatly influenced my coaching/teaching choice was my select softball coach mainly because he was always there to make you work harder than you thought you could and I want to do be that person for others.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Ryan... I agree with you I wanted to be a coach and not a teacher. I also talked to a coach/teacher at my high school and that helped me decide that I wanted to do both as well.

  33. I did not wat to be a teacher at first. at first my major was architecture. when i trasfered to lindenwood they did not have this major so my second choise was coaching and teachin. my high school cross country coach inspired me to major in this profession. i one day hope that i would be able to impact someones life just like my coach did with me. i also plan to master in sport psychology.

  34. I agree with you jamie, i dnt knw wat i wanted to do till like my senior year in college but it turned out that i couldnt since they do not have that major here in school, and i do too like to help out people and i myself had a lot of trouble in school as a child and i hope i can help them and impact their lives

  35. I got fired from my job as a mexican fast food restaurant cook. That's how I knew I wanted to be a teacher. Because I couldn't cut it making tacos.
The day after I was fired my buddy, who was the nighttime manager for my town's swim lesson program, offered me a job. I was thrown in with no training and found out that not only was I good at it, but that I liked it a lot. Since then I've been working as a swim instructor for Webster Groves, and St. Peter's.
I figured most of the experience would transfer to the classroom, so I decided to declare education as my major since I didn't have one and I had run out of Gen Eds to take.

  36. Nick, I hope you are going to be a great history teacher. By the way, just don't expect your subject to sell itself to the kids. You're going to have to really liven it up. Just speaking of personal experience ;)
    I'm not a history guy.

  37. I have wanted to become a teacher for as long as I remember. My second grade teacher inspired me the most because she would always make learning fun and interesting. I plan on teaching second grade because they learn a lot at that age but are still really cute.

  38. Emily, I'm glad to here you want to be a coach! I plan on coaching a high school dance team while being a elementary teacher!

  39. The reason i want to become a teacher is so i can coach. I love softball and i want to coach so i can stay with the sport.

  40. Emily,
i am also really good at explaining things. I would love to become a coach, just like you.

  41. Monica, sorry that nursing did not work out to well but it is awesome that you were able to watch a friend teach and realize that this is what you wanted to do. I hope i can have that same insurgence as you at the end of the year.

  42. I decided that I wanted to become a teacher because I have always liked helping others. The feeling of helping someone is awesome but even more than just helping I love seeing someone that I helped succeed at what I was helping them with. Being able to inspire students to want to learn and understand things everyday is what I look forward to. I think about the teachers that I have become friends with and how much they have impacted my life in and out of school and hope that I can have that same impact on my students.

  43. Nick Foster, I am a science major and I too struggle with people always thinking science is boring. I too have had some bad and i mean BAD science teachers...but it is the good teachers that really make a difference. I am looking forward to being the person that changes students minds about science! I am sure you will be able to do the same with history :)

  44. I have always wanted to be a teacher. I like the classroom setting with desks, blackboards, grading papers, etc. I also enjoy playing water polo and know that I eventually want to coach a team, teaching would allow me to do this. The only problem was I didn't have an interest to a specific subject. Freshman year of high school was when my future became a clearer picture. My math teacher, Mr. Moroz, was fun and exciting. I never dreaded walking in to his room. He showed his passion for the subject and more importantly, his passion for helping students. He has retired, but still is at the schoool everyday tutoring kids and giving everyone advice. I hope one day I can be as effective and as exceptional as a teacher as he was for me.

  45. Kimberly Ruth,
I, also, enjoy seeing students have the "oh ya" moment when they are struggling with something and then you help them understand it. It makes me feel good when I can explain a method to someone in an effective way. I hope when I become a teacher, I inspire students to do whatever they want to do and to make and achieve their goals.

  46. Growing up I said I'd NEVER want to be a teacher because I have been in "school too long enough" however, my sophomore year of college I coached at Ursuline Academy in St Louis. I tracked the high school track and field and thats when i decided coaching and teaching was for me. I immediately changed my major and now pursing Physical Education with a minor in Coaching.

  47. Monica Granda,
Thats funny you say that because I wanted to be a Athletic Trainer but broken bones and blood do not mix with me. Glad I'm not the only one with a weak stomach!

  48. When I was growing up throughout high school I had no idea what I wanted to do when I grew up. I loved football and always dreamed of going pro, but I never put any thought into what I wanted to be other than that. Before I went to college I heard about sports medicine and it caught my attention because I knew that that would keep me around sports more so I came to Lindenwood to be an Athletic Trainer. It was actually this past J-term semester and the fall semester of 09 that I realized it just wasn't for me. Then I realized that I love kids when i started teaching the 4th and 5th graders at my church about the bible. To see a kids life change just by being like an older brother has really inspired me to be a teacher and I would enjoy being a PE teacher and football coach.

Ana, I too wanted to be an Athletic Trainer, but I found that it just wasn't what I wanted to do the rest of my life. I think that its cool that you too want to be a PE teacher and coach : ).
