Week 11 - Teacher-Student Rapport

Just a reminder that we do have class on Tuesday, May 4th. All practicum documents are due along with all class assignments.  Unless you have to take the final, this will be the last time I will see you.

I believe that the art of teaching is shown in the teacher's ability to have a positive rapport with students. According to Webster's Dictionary, the word rapport means "relation; connection, esp. harmonious or sympathetic relation: a teacher trying to establish close rapport with." Hopefully, your cooperating teacher has a good rapport with the students. Watch your cooperating teacher this week in order to answer the following questions:
What strategies does the teacher use to build and maintain rapport with students? How are opportunities for success provided for each student? Do the students have a positive connection with the teacher?

  1. Most of the kids in the class play a sport that my teacher teaches like football or wrestling so he has a real good rapport with all his students and gives tem some lee way on certain things but kids how don’t have almost no lee way at all but they are the ones that cause problems in class and never dress out when a weight lifting class is the easiest A ever. My teacher give students more freedom when they trust a student like from a sport and he’s cut down since a student stole a key to the school from him and it might cost him 6,000 dollars or his job but he has to tell the principle before something happened in the school. Its nice to build a relationship with your students they seem to work harder and be less of a hassle but sometimes they can take advantage of your trust in them and do something to hurt you.

  2. My host teacher connects with the students with sports and pop culture. All around the classroom the teacher displays sports posters. Throughout each of the teachers lessons he brings up movies that pertain to the subject including comedys and movies that are discussed greatly between teenagers. Students are more eager to discuss the subjects when the teacher brings up a funny movie that they enjoy. My host teacher is also young which helps students feel more of a connection with him.
